get the white coat

DIGITAL PRE MED COACH.png

"From Dishwasher to Doctor" I grew up within blocks of Ferguson, Missouri. My journey into medicine started in the food and nutrition staff at my local hospital. From digging ditches, baking cakes, and starting med school 36 weeks pregnant I refused to let hardships keep me from my white coat dreams. In 2018, I made history becoming the FIRST BLACK FEMALE family medicine physhician in my hospital's 130 year history. Now that I have my whitecoat, I've made it my mission to help more black and brown aspiring doctors get theirs

WEBINARS

Race and Medicine

It's not a hidden secret that minorities have lacked representation in the doctor workforce. Far too often, our absence has been acknowledged, yet the "school to white coat " pipeline is still broken for aspiring doctors of color.

Efforts and programs have been made, yet not far-reaching enough to bridge the massive gap in diversity in the medical field

Diversity in medicine has been more of an optional checkbox than a mandate to ensure protection of black and brown bodies that have been historically received poor access to quality health care.

doctor power hour

We know many aspiring minorities doctors will be 1st generation doctors and lack access to speak with other doctors to ask questions about their premed journey.

Doctor Power Hour hosted by Dr. Denmark  @ProjectDiversifyMedicine strives to alleviate this problematic barrier with live Q and A sessions about the premed journey from a doctor's perspective

OUR CALL TO ACTION
CREATING BLACK AND BROWN DOCTORS TO HEAL OUR CULTURE
CRISIS: SHORTAGE OF BROWN AND BLACK DOCTORS
Historically, black and brown doctors have lacked representation in the medical field. Research has shown minority doctors are more likely to serve undeserved communities and have cultural competence that improves compliance amongst minorities. Thus,  our lack of presence in the medical has resulted in minorities having higher incidence of poor health outcomes and lack of access to medical care.
