RACISM IN MEDICINE
ANONYMOUS HOTLINE

WE NEED YOUR VOICE TO
PROTECT OUR COMMUNITY

You can help “Project Diversify Medicine,” (PDM) document the harm of racism in medicine and advocate for real equitable admissions practices and freedom from the daily micro-aggressions / explicit/implicit bias that Black and Brown attendees, aspiring doctors, medical students, pre-med students, and healthcare workers face every day.

Our stories are a broken record across this country. Everyone knows the duality of being a person of color in medicine. Being asked to manage the challenges of medicine while being a target of racism are experiences that should not be normalized.

Far too often, our monumental accomplishments are celebrated while our scarcity in these colorless medical spaces, hosptials, and institutions are ignored while these systems are allowed to thrive. We need to bring forward true stories and facts of the harms caused by racism in medicine. We want to help elevate the harm and consequence of racism in medicine that impacts doctors, aspiring doctors, nurses, and patients so we can bring about change. And meaningful policies that can help urms in the field of medicine.

As you craft your story, consider:

  • Documenting harm or identifying progress, such as:

    • How systematic structures interfered or improved your ability to perform

    • The specific impact hospitals and institutions have had on med students, residents, and healthcare workers.

  • Sharing your perspective, for example

    • What drove you to get into medicine and if you experienced racism what happened when you reported it.

    • Does the med school, residency program, or hospital system have a history of racism? What steps have been taken to address the matter?

By submitting a story (“the Submission”), I understand and agree to the following:

  •  The Submission will be a true and accurate firsthand account.

  • I am assigning, conveying, and otherwise transferring to PDM all rights, title, interest, and copyright ownership I may have in the Submission, and that PDM will be the sole owner of copyright and other rights in and to the Submission and any work based on the Submission. I understand that PDM may edit, alter, prepare derivative works, reproduce, exhibit, publish, and distribute the Submission for any lawful purpose, and may license these rights to others.

  • I will waive all claims, release, indemnify, defend, hold harmless, and forever discharge PDM and its authorized representatives, licensees, successors, and assigns from any and all liability, claims, suits, demands, expenses of litigation and causes of action which I, my heirs, representatives, executors, administrators, or any other persons acting on my behalf or on behalf of my estate have or may have by reason of this authorization or arising out of my providing the Submission or PDM's publication of any information I have provided.
